CENTEK Brings Advance Training on Mining and the Environment
in the Philippines

The International Training and
Development Centre at Lulea University of Technology has forged
a cooperation agreement with the Chamber of Mines and is
sponsoring the advanced course on Mining and the Environment on
in Manila and Baguio City from February 13 to March 10, 2005.
The objectives are to deepen and broaden the participant’s
knowledge of the mining industry’s environmental impact and
demonstrate best practice methods compatible with
environmentally responsible mining. Program contents include:
environmental impact assessment, environmental management, waste
management and acid mine drainage, awareness and preparedness
for emergencies, tailings dam construction and management,
mediation and conflict resolution, public health and metals in
the environment and plants and mine visits.
Sweden’s long mining tradition based on many centuries of mining
experience will benefit the Philippines in terms of efficient
methods and tools that have been developed by said country in
the field of mining technology.
The program will be conducted in English and is designed for
environmental managers in the mining industry, regulatory
officers, managers in mining companies and officers responsible
for environmental issues in their respective organizations.
Participants should hold an academic degree equivalent to a B.
Sc. in relevant subject area with several years of working
experience.
Nominations are now being accepted by the Chamber of Mines and
Centek for evaluation. Application forms are available at the
